AkzoNobel says it is contributing to China鈥檚 increased focus on developing a greener and safer water supply system. The company, along with the China Building Metal Structure Association, is devising a new group standard for the application of powder coatings in drinking water pipelines and valves in China.
ECKART and Runaya Partner to Build Sustainable Aluminum Powder Facility in India
ECKART, a manufacturer in the effect pigment market, has entered into a joint venture agreement with Runaya, a manufacturer focusing on sustainability, to establish a facility in Orissa, India for production of spherical atomized aluminum granules. The granules serve applications in aerospace, solar panels and high value effect pigments. The companies have also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to manufacture high quality aluminum pigments.
Brenntag Appointed Exclusive U.S. Distributor of Milliken Coating Additives
Borchers: A Milliken Brand announced Brenntag as the exclusive U.S. distributor for its coating additives. Brenntag, which currently distributes Borchers brand products in Europe, will now oversee its U.S. distribution.
Excel Color Corporation Introduces New Logo and Website
Illinois-based Excel Color Corporation has launched a new logo and redesigned website. It credits the growth of its pigment dispersion technologies in the CASE, foam, casting, molding, composite, aggregate, caulk, and latex markets.
SCAQMD to Host Workshop on Proposed Amended Rule 1151 (Auto-Refinish) Aug. 30
California鈥檚 South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) is accepting written comments on the proposal through Sept. 13, 2024. The district intends to present the Proposed Amended Rule 1151 to the Governing Board at a public hearing on Nov. 1 (subject to change).
ACA Comments on OSHA鈥檚 Proposed Emergency Response Standard
ACA鈥檚 comments to focused only on WEREs鈥 Workplace Emergency Response Employers. OSHA has scheduled an informal hearing on its proposal for Nov. 12, 2024, to hear comments and testimony from the public.
OSHA Final Rule Updating the Hazard Communication Standard Takes Effect July 19
According to the OSHA, its updated Hazard Communication Standard, which takes effect on July 19, will better protect workers by improving the amount and quality of information on labels and safety data sheets and allow workers and first responders to react more quickly in an emergency.
PHMSA Final Rule Harmonizes HMR with International Standards
According to PHMSA, its final amendments are expected to maintain the HMR's high safety standard for the public and the environment. PHMSA also anticipates additional safety benefits to be derived from improved compliance related to consistency amongst domestic and international regulations.
DHS CISA Proposes Rule for Cyber Incident Reporting
On April 4, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security鈥檚 (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a proposed rule on cyber incident reporting. CISA鈥檚 proposal includes a reporting framework that would require broad segments of industry to meet reporting requirements following certain cyber incidents, including the 16 Critical Infrastructure Sectors (e.g., Chemical Sector).

New California Law will Expand Products Collected by PaintCare
A new California law will expand the range of products managed by the PaintCare program in the state from architectural coatings to a broader array of paint product types. Gov. Gavin Newsome signed SB 1143 into law on Sept. 29.
ACA Announces Appointment of Mike Johnson as Incoming President and CEO
ACA has announced the appointment of Mike Johnson as president and CEO, effective Nov. 1. Johnson, president and CEO of the National Stone, Sand, & Gravel Association (NSSGA), will succeed Andy Doyle, who was first appointed as the association鈥檚 CEO in March 1988 and whose ACA career spans 45 years.
